Who needs an FSSAI License?

Any individual or business involved in manufacturing, processing, packaging, distribution, or sale of food must register. This includes: 

• Home-based kitchens and tiffin services 
• Cloud kitchens, cafes, restaurants, bakeries 
• Packaged food producers (chips, jams, pickles, etc.) 
• Food trucks and carts 
• Wholesale traders, exporters, importers 
• E-commerce sellers on Amazon, BigBasket, Swiggy, Zomato, etc. 
• Even if you’re just starting out, the law requires at least FSSAI Basic Registration if your turnover is under ₹12 lakh.

Types of FSSAI Registration 

FSSAI registration is categorised based on your food business type and annual turnover: 

1. Basic Registration (Form A) 

• For small businesses with a turnover of up to ₹12 lakh annually. Example: home kitchens, petty food vendors. 

2. State License (Form B) 

• For businesses with turnover between ₹12 lakh and ₹20 crore or those operating within one state. 

3. Central License (Form B) 

• For businesses with turnover above ₹20 crore, or those involved in import/export, or operating across multiple states.

Validity and Renewal of FSSAI

• FSSAI license is valid for 1 to 5 years (you choose this during application) 
• Renewal is required before 30 days of expiry 
• Delayed renewal invites a fine of ₹100 per day 
• Miss the renewal window, and you’ll have to apply afresh
